In short: we keep your email address so you can sign in, and the stories you choose to write. We do not sell anything, show ads, or track you around the internet. You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Who we are
Lived Quotes (livedquotes.com) is a small, independent website run by Deepak Meena in India. Questions or requests: hello@livedquotes.com.
What we store, and why
- Your email address, to send you a sign-in code. We use it only for that. No newsletters, no marketing. The first code email also carries a short welcome note.
- The name you choose when you join. It is shown only if you sign a story with it; by default stories are signed with a separate name you pick for each story.
- Your stories: drafts (seen only by you), stories you send (read by our editors), and stories we publish (seen by everyone, under the name you chose). If an editor sends a story back or takes it down, their note to you is stored with it.
- Your likes and “Not for me” choices. “Not for me” is private: nobody sees it, not even the writer. It only quietly affects the order of stories.
- Reports. If you report a story, we keep the reason and any note you add. If you are signed in, the report is linked to your account (so the same person cannot report one story twice). Only editors see reports; the writer is never told who reported.
- Basic safety records: when stories and votes were sent, so we can limit spam and abuse.
Reading the site needs no account, and nothing is stored about readers who do not sign in, apart from the routine logs described below.
What stays in your browser
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. To work, the site keeps a few small items in your browser’s local storage: your sign-in session (so you are not asked for a code every visit), your light or dark choice, an unsent draft so you do not lose your words, which of your stories you have already been told about, and when you last visited (you are signed out after 7 days away). Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of them.
Who helps us run the site
These services process data for us, only to run the site:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in. Your account and stories are stored on their servers in Seoul, South Korea.
- Resend: sends the sign-in code emails (it sees your email address and the email’s contents).
- Netlify: hosts the website.
- Cloudflare: manages our domain name. A security check from Cloudflare may run when you ask for a sign-in code, to stop bots.
- Google Fonts: provides the typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address.
Like all web services, these keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses and times of requests) for security and to keep things running. This means your data may be processed outside India.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. You can remove any of your stories yourself, at any time, under “My stories”. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your email, name, stories and votes together. We also keep a weekly backup copy (the last 12 weeks) on the site owner’s own computer, so stories can be restored if something goes wrong; deleted accounts disappear from those copies within 12 weeks.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, by writing to hello@livedquotes.com from the email address you sign in with. We aim to reply within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Age
Lived Quotes is for people aged 18 and over. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we will delete it.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell signed-in members on the site when the change matters.
